Charity: Operation Christmas Child (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/)
In the summer of 1993, Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham received a call from a man in England asking if he’d be willing to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in war-torn Bosnia. Franklin agreed, but figured Christmas was months away. He forgot about the promise until he received a call back around Thanksgiving asking about the gifts. Franklin asked his friend the late Pastor Ross Rhoads of Calvary Church of Charlotte to see if he could help with the need. A Sunday shortly afterward, Pastor Rhoads demonstrated for his congregation how to fill a shoebox with simple gifts and encouraged them to include a letter to the child as well. Within weeks, the church had 11,000 shoeboxes lining their hallways. Due to their generosity and additional gifts from Canada, Samaritan’s Purse sent 28,000 shoebox gifts to children in the Balkans that Christmas. Every year since, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 178 million children in more than 150 countries have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love.

Charity: The Christopher Rowan Foundation
The Christopher Rowan Memorial Fund was established following his 2012 death at the age of 28 to develop programs and activities geared toward educating area youth interested in fishing, hunting and the 4-H programs. An avid outdoorsman who believed strongly in our 4-H programs and the agricultural industry as evidenced by his memberships in both the Bethany and Cold Spring 4-H clubs, and his love for showing livestock at the Wayne County Fair, the Northeast PA District 4-H Show, the Pennsylvania State 4-H Show, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show, Christopher thrived on his love for fishing and all forms of hunting. The purpose of the Christopher Rowan Memorial Fund is to honor his memory by helping youth experience the very activities that he enjoyed and believed in so strongly throughout his lifetime. All donations will be used to sponsor activities such as youth pheasant hunts for first-time hunters and fishing events to encourage kids to get out and enjoy these sports safely and responsibly. Funds will not only be used to support our hunting and fishing initiatives but an annual donation to the Nebzydoski White Memorial Jr. Livestock Sale Scholarship is made to help provide scholarships to participants in the Wayne County Livestock Program. For further information on how you can help or to make a contribution, please contact Robin Rowan at 570-642-1601.
